The LY6 was introduced as the Generation IV small-block V8 truck engine. It featured a cast-iron block and is a direct upgrade over the LQ4, its Generation III predecessor.
It featured variable valve timing (VVT) as most Generation IV engines did and produced approximately 361 horsepower.
The L96 replaced the LY6 on later models. It was essentially identical to the LY6, save for the fact that the L96 was flex-fuel capable. f
