The Chevy/GM 6.5L 396 was introduced in the L78 option of the 1965 Chevrolet Corvette. It was included in Z16 Chevelles.
Chevy’s 402 is, essentially, the same motor as the 396 with a larger bore (4.12 rather than 4.09).
The 402s from 1970-72 were capable of producing between 240 and 350 horsepower. They were a performance engine, through and through, and are one of the most sought-after reman engines on the market.
