GM/Chevrolet 6.6 403 - Duramax Diesel - Production Years 2006-2007

Description

Halfway through the 2006 production run, Chevy/GM introduced the 6.6 403 Duramax LBZ. This motor produced more horsepower and pound-feet of torque than its predecessor while eliminating the overheating issues the LLY was prone to.

As with the LLY, the LBZ included emissions-regulating features to keep help the motor adhere to tightening emissions standards.

These features included the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Diesel Oxidization Catalyst (DOC), both of which inhibited performance somewhat.

The LBZ was not without some faults. The LBZ’s aluminum-cast pistons were prone to cracking. This was likely caused to be increased strain when the engine’s output was increased, but owners also pointed to the wrist pin bushings as a potential cause as well.

The LBZ Duramax Diesel was designed for and installed into Chevrolet Silverado HDs and GMC Sierra HDs.

The engine remained the same throughout the 2006-2007 production runs.
